Obituary of Paul E. Stanburg

Paul E. Stanburg, 68, of Oriskany and formerly of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2013 in Albany Medical Center, Albany, with his loving family at his side, following a brief illness. He was born on September 7, 1944, the son of the late Paul A. Stanburg. Paul attended Little Falls and Ilion schools and has resided in Ilion most of his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, Paul was a long time employee of the Remington Arms, Inc., Ilion. At one time, he was a member of the American Legion. Paul enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, watching NASCAR and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed his trips to Turning Stone Casino. Paul's greatest priority was his family and spending time with them. His grandchildren would affectionately raid GP's snack stash because they always knew he had it there for them. The comfort, smiles and laughter he brought to his family will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His is survived by his loving children, Brett Stanburg of Tully and Julie Sliski and her husband, Stephen of Oriskany whom he had resided for the past few years; his grandchildren, Trevor Stanburg, Skyler Stanburg, Kourtnee Fernalld, Justin Fernalld, Heather and Jeremy Palkovic, Michael Sliski and Podie Sliski and his fiancée, Amanda Burger; his great grandchildren, Abby, Boom and Bryan; his former wife, Cheryl Wright of Weedsport; and his special, dear family. The family would also like to thank Paul's special friends Anne and Dobber Clive for their love and support. Paul is predeceased by his grandmother, Minnie Stanburg who raised him, his cousin, Ronald Stanburg and his daughter-in-law, Brenda Casteline.
