Obituary of Henry J. Scott

ILION - Henry J. Scott, age 85, of Ilion, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford, with his family by his side. He had been a resident of Valley Health Services, Herkimer. He was born on March 2, 1928, in Ilion, the son of Henry J. and Florence (Dillenbeck) Scott, and graduated from Ilion High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Air Force. On November 28, 1953, he was married to Margaret "Maggie" Rumsey in Ipswich, England. She died on March 1, 2012. Henry was a machine operator at Remington Arms Co. for twenty-six years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, and a former member of the Ilion American Legion and Herkimer County Marine Corps League. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Scott and Thomas Koehler, of Fairfield, and Helen Reese and her husband, James, of Fairfield; four sons, Stephen Scott and his wife, Dawn, of Mohawk, John Scott and his wife, Debra, of Beaver Falls, PA, Peter Scott, of Utica, and Kenneth Scott, of Mohawk; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife; his son, Daniel James Scott; and his sister, Helen De Laurier. Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Leo Potvin assisted by Deacon James Bower. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, North Ilion. Calling hours are Wednesday, June 12, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare and Valley Health Services for the excellent care and compassion shown to their father. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Annunciation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
