Obituary of Frances Slabe

LITTLE FALLS: Mrs. Frances A. Slabe, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 11, 2013. She was born on August 11, 1922 in Little Falls, daughter of the late Frank and Frances (Skubitz) Novak. She was of the Catholic faith. Frances graduated from Little Falls High School in the Class of 1939, at age 16. She volunteered as a nurse's aide for the American Red Cross during World War II. June 29, 1946 marked the start of a blessed union shared with dedication and companionship when Frances was united in marriage with John L. Slabe in St. Mary's Church, Little Falls. The couple shared over 50 years of marriage until John's passing on January 30, 2001. Frances was the business manager of Slabe's Sales and Service on Flint Avenue Extension, Little Falls; a business which she and John founded in 1948. They started this successful venture by building a small automotive repair shop which grew in time to become a large dealership for International Harvester trucks, Jeeps and American Motors cars. They gained the respect and loyalty of their customers for over 40 years. Frances' primary source of joy and pride in life was her family. She was a devoted wife and an unselfish, nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother who gave her family unconditional love, encouragement, opportunities and good values. Frances is survived by her two loving daughters: Beverly Alwine and her husband Richard; and Barbara Slabe; two cherished grandchildren: Amy Coppins and her husband Brett; and Aaron Alwine and his finacee Elizabeth Sattler; two adored great grandsons: Reese and Ryder Coppins; one sister: Betty Uebele and husband Walt; a brother -in-law Frank Slabe; two sisters -in-law: Olga Celebi and June Slabe and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Frances was preceded in death by her two sisters: Agnes and Dorothy; and a brother Frank. Mrs. Slabe's life will be celebrated on Saturday June 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls with Deacon Ron St. Marie officiating. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer where full burial will take place. Friends and relatives may visit with the family and pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 9 until 10 AM prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be considered to the Children's Miracle Network of Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital. Envelopes may be obtained from the Enea Family Funeral Home. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Mohawk Homestead and the Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the compassionate care given to Frances.
