Obituary of Richard Erstad

Mr. Richard Allan Erstad 67 of 2145 Burrell Road Little Falls, Town of Salisbury, died Sunday Morning June 16, 2013 at his residence after an extended illness. Richard was born on April 16, 1946 in Crookston, Minnesota the son of the late Miles G. and Mae M. (Benson) Erstad and was a high school graduate. A veteran of the Viet Nam War he served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1964 until he was discharged in April 1985 with the rank of Master Sergeant. While serving his country he earned the following military honors- The Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon w/1 device, Air Force Longevity Services Award Ribbon w/4 devices, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon, Viet nam Service Medal, Republic of Viet nam Gallantry Cross w/palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/5 oak leaf clusters. His marriage to the former Marilyn Schultz took place on April 30, 1988 in Lee Center, New York. Rich was first employed by the Sears Company of New Hartford for 12 years and most recently by the Zipp hardware Store on Main Street Dolgeville for 15 years retiring from there in 2009. He was a member of the former Lions club of Dolgeville and personally enjoyed fishing and his gardens at his residence. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his brothers and their wives Orville & Marilyn Erstad of the state of Washington, Gerald & Susan Erstad of Minnesota, Donald & Donnela Erstad of North Dakota his Brother in law and his fiancé' Francis Schultz and Mary Jane Loiciano of Utica, his sister in laws Carol Olson of Florida, Dolores Mathey of Whitesboro, Lois Veazy of Stanwix, NY, several Nieces and Nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also his canine companion "Bozz". He was predeceased by a nephew Craig Erstad in 1964. In Keeping with his wishes there are no calling hours or services at this time. They are private at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be sent to the S & S Ambulance Corps 75 North Helmer Avenue Dolgeville, NY 13329 Arrangements are entrusted to Brian A.
