ILION - William "Bill" G. Hoffman, age 73, of Spinnerville Gulf Rd. North, Ilion, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at home. He was born on February 24, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Blanche (Cox) Hoffman. Bill graduated from Ilion Central School and attended Herkimer Co. Community College. He was a veteran, serving with the US Marines in the Cuba Missle Crisis. On February 23, 1964, he was married to Carol Jean Dibble in Las Vegas, Nevada. She died on January 12, 2013. Bill was employed as a polisher/finisher at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, for thirty-eight years, retiring in 2002. He was a lifetime member and former chaplain of the Marine Corps League and Amvets. Bill was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. He loved camping and enjoyed watching college football. Bill was completely devoted to his wife, Carol. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, William "Billy" and Dawn Hoffman, of S. Berwick, ME, and Eric and Gabrielle Hoffman, of Albany; his daughters and son-in-law, Bambi and Mike Luchock, of Athol, MA, and Carrie Hoffman and Eugene Sumner, of Palm Springs, CA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Linda Hoffman, of Ilion, Michael and Patty Hoffman, of North Carolina, Stephen and Nancy Hoffman, of Ilion, and Dennis and MaryAnn Hoffman, of Ilion; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his Goddaughter, Jackie Blakely. He was predeceased by his wife; his sister, Phyllis Kocher; and his brother, Thomas Hoffman. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2013, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Father Mark Cunningham, Pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, officiating. Calling hours are Friday, July 19, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral home service. The Herkimer Co. Marine Corps League will conduct their ritual service at 12:30 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2013, at the funeral home.
