Obituary of Carol J Putman

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Carol. J. (Fontana) Putman, age 69, a lifelong resident of the Village of St. Johnsville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, August 24, 2013 in St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. Carol was the Executive Director of the St. Johnsville Housing Authority for 25 plus years. Her loving family was at her side. She was born on March 28, 1944 in Amsterdam, daughter of the late Augustio and Angelina (Vesp) Fontana and attended St. Johnsville schools. She was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, Class of 1962. Carol went on to attend CCBI; Central City Business Institute of Syracuse. She formerly attended St. Patrick's Church. Survivors include her children: Jacquelyn Schaffer and her husband Shane of St. Johnsville; Jennifer Putman Scripter of St. Johnsville; and Michael Putman and his fiancée Amy Sager of St. Johnsville; grandchildren: Julian Schaffer, Madeline Scripter, Grace Scripter, and her grandson 'on the way' Eric; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Carol was also blessed with very special friends in her life, including Jon "Jack" Putman of St. Johnsville and her closest best friend Nancy Hollenbeck of Seneca Falls. She also had a great love for her beloved Chihuahua dog: Chi Chi. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Lorraine Putman and her sister, Josephine LaCoppola. The family has selected the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville to assist them during this difficult time. Visitation at the funeral home on Center Street will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 from 6-8 PM at which time the family will be present. A prayer service will be offered at 8 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot at St. Johnsville Cemetery at the convenience of the family. It is the wish of the family that donations in memory of Carol be considered to the organization Autism Speaks. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and information may be obtained from autismspeaks.com. The staff of the ICU at St. Mary's Hospital was wonderful. A special thank you also to Rev. John Medwid, St. Mary's Hospital chaplain, who comforted Carol and her loved ones through this time. Arrangement supervision is under the direction of funeral director Kevin E. Enea (568-2300).
