Obituary of Harold E. Hay

Harold E. Hay, Sr., 86 of Ilion and formerly of the Prindle Apartments, passed away peacefully , Monday, September 9, 2013, in the Siegenthaler Center, Town of Kirkland, with his loving family by his side. He was born on April 11, 1927, in Amsterdam, the son of the late, Almon and Helena Otto Hay and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. Harold served in the United States Navy during World War II. On January 17, 1953, Harold married the former, Patricia "Pat" A. Taggart in Broadalbin, NY. Mrs. Hay passed away on June 14, 2013. Prior to his retirement, He was employed in the wood shop at Remington Arms, Inc., Ilion. Earlier in his career Harold was a master cabinet maker with Grieme Lumber Company in Amsterdam and later with the former Standard Desk Company in Herkimer. Harold was a member of the Crowley Barnum American Legion Post #25, Mohawk and the Michael Pliseck VFW Post #4915, Herkimer. Harold is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Simons of Ilion; his son, Daniel Hay and his wife, Beverly, of Taylor, PA; his brother, Gerald Hay of Ft. Johnson, NY; his sister, Barbara Stoddard and her husband, Jack McGirr of Schenectady; his eleven grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughters, Anne Moore and Emily Farrington; his son, Harold E. Hay, Jr. and his sisters, Helen Roberson, Geraldine Goldy and June Hall. Harold's funeral will be held 4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd, Ilion, with Deacon James Bower, officiating. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, where he will be laid to rest with his wife. Relative and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, September 12, 2013, from 3 until the time of the services at the funeral home. The family has asked to kindly consider donations, in Harold's memory, to be offered to the Siegenthaler Center in care of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, 13413.
