Obituary of Robert L Giammaria

EAST HERKIMER - Mr. Robert L. Giammaria, age 85, a longtime resident of East Herkimer, NY, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 16, 2013. He was born on May 29, 1928 in Little Falls, NY a son of the late Thomas and Mary (Ferraro) Giammaria and was a graduate of Little Falls High School, Class of 1945. Bob attended RPI, and after many years of hard work and determination, went on to graduate from Utica College. On September 8, 1951 Bob and the former Clarinda R. Fazio exchanged the blessed vows of marriage at St. Anthony's Church in Herkimer under the prayerful guidance of Father Gustav Purificato. Their marriage of over 62 years was filled with beautiful memories and wonderful family moments forever to be cherished. Bob last worked full time with Momentum Technology as an Engineer based in Herkimer. Looking back, Bob first worked side by side with his father at Rock City Beer Distributors. He went on to gain employment with General Electric. Following GE, Bob went on to the original MDS in Herkimer. He then worked with NYS ILEC/Mohawk Valley Applied Technology Commission of Utica. Bob even enjoyed teaching, as he taught business classes in the evening at Herkimer County Community College. Bob was a devoted member of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph in Herkimer. He was a founding member of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Glee Club. He just loved the Glee Club and took great pleasure in singing with his friends. Bob was an avid golfer and was active as an organizer of the "Italian Open Golf Tournament." Most of all, though, we remember how happy Bob would be at the garage luncheons on Dewey Avenue, surrounded by great friendship and amazing food. Bob's active involvement in his church would be seen through his dedicated former membership as a church councilman, along with being a member of the Sts. Anthony & Joseph Crusaders. He volunteered at the Herkimer Food Pantry. Most of and above all, Bob was ever so proud of his grandchildren. His eyes sparkled with mention of his great grandson. He just felt so blessed. He is survived by his family, including his devoted wife Clarinda; his children: Thomas Giammaria and his wife Sharon of Herkimer; and Richard Giammaria and his wife Kim of Lorton, Virginia; his loved grandchildren: Nick Giammaria and his wife Karen, Steven Giammaria and his wife Greta, Madison Giammaria and his special friend Cassidy Bryant, and Carson Giammaria; cherished great grandson, Cooper Giammaria; In-Laws: David Gardner, Angelo & Ruth Fazio, Angie Fiorentino, and Lucy & Donald Giffune; along with an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins and many special dear and close friends. Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Robert Michael Giammaria; two sisters, Marie Yanno and her husband Andrew, and Jeanette Casullo and her husband Carl; and In-Laws: Sal Fiorentino, and Dolores Gardner along with two nephews, Thomas Yanno and Daniel Gardner. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown and to all of the many friends and loved ones for the overwhelming amount of cards, well wishes and phone calls during this very difficult time. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 19, 2013 at 9:00 AM from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer and at 9:30 AM from the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street Herkimer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Lawless, Pastor. Interment will follow in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Herkimer on Friday evening, Oct. 18 from 5 - 9 PM. The Sts. Anthony & Joseph Crusaders are invited to gather at the funeral home on Friday evening at 7Pm for prayer.
