Obituary of Bernice K. Hennessey

ILION - Bernice K. (Bergin) Hennessey, age 97, formerly of Sunset Ave., Ilion, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the Masonic Care Community, Utica, with her daughter by her side. She was born on July 24, 1916, in Clinton, NY, the daughter of John E. and Katherine (Fleucher) Bergin, and graduated from Mohawk High School. In 1955, she was married to William "Bill" R. Hennessey at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. He died on May 17, 1969. Bernice was the executive secretary to the President at Duofold Co., Mohawk, for many years. She was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church. Bernice enjoyed ceramics and playing cards and loved to read. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Ingari and her husband, Victor; two grandchildren, Nicholas William Ingari and John Michael Ingari, all of Suffield, CT; her son, Mark Hennessey, of Ilion; her sisters-in-law, Doris Bergin, of Ilion, and Connie Bergin, of Venice, Fl; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her sisters, Eleanor Helmer, Millie Petrie, Shirley Goodman, Pat Murphy and Martha Bergin; and two brothers, Jack and Bob Bergin. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 4, 2013, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Mark Cunningham. Burial will be held at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, next to her husband Bill. Calling hours are Sunday, November 3, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank the staff of Erie Neighborhood of the Masonic Care Community and Bernice's helpful companions over the years for their excellent care and compassion.
