Obituary of Congetta M. Bernhardt

HERKIMER - Mrs. Congetta M. "Connie" Bernhardt, age 87, a longtime resident of Marion Street in Herkimer, NY, passed away at the Valley Health Services on Friday morning, November 8, 2013. Connie received wonderful care from the entire staff of the Valley Health Services with special mention to the angels of One East. She was born on September 11, 1926 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late George and Antonia (Ryman) Marrone and attended Herkimer schools. Connie graduated from St. Francis de Sales School, 'Class of 1944.' She was united in marriage with Henry "Hank" Bernhardt on November 26, 1949 at St. Mary's of Immaculate Conception Church, Wilkes Barre, PA. The couple shared in a blessed union of nearly 47 years until the passing of Hank on October 26, 1996. In her younger years Connie enjoyed working at the former J.J. Newbury's in Herkimer. She last worked in the office of the John Henderson Insurance Agency formerly of Herkimer. She was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, and was very active within the community. She enjoyed memberships with the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4915 Auxiliary and the Mohawk Crowley Barnum American Legion Auxiliary Post #25. Connie was also a member of the Herkimer and East Herkimer Senior Citizens. She is survived by her loving family, including her daughter Linda Pohli and her husband Aaron of Sidney, NY. Also surviving are Connie's nephews: James T. Marrone and his wife Elma of Herkimer; Robert Marrone and his wife Phyllis of Saranac Lake, NY; Terry Marrone and his wife Marie of Little Falls; Thomas Marrone and his wife Debbie of Mohawk; and Thomas Marrone and his wife Margo of Vermont; a sister in law Marian Marrone and many nieces nephews and cousins and special family members in Wilkes Barre, PA whom she dearly loved. Connie was preceded in death by her sister: Aileen Marrone (known in the Roman Catholic Community as Sister Pasqualina) and two brothers: Thomas and James Marrone. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM from St. Francis de Sales Church, North Bellinger Street, Herkimer, where the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham will Celebrate Connie's Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow with full committal in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Connie's family will honor her wish of no calling hours and will gather privately prior to the church service at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY. It is the wish of the family that those wishing consider contributions in memory of Connie to either St. Francis de Sales Church of Herkimer or to the Valley Health Services.
