Ilion: Margaret A. Brigham, 83, passed away with her beloved family at her side on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center in New Hartford. Margaret was born on June 30, 1930 in Ilion, NY, the daughter of the late Ellis and Mary (Williams) Griffiths. She attended Ilion schools and graduated from West Winfield High School. On August 7, 1948, she was united in marriage with Herbert Brigham in Cedarville, NY, sharing a blessed union of 42 years until his passing on January 18, 1991. Margaret began her working years with the Ilion Police Department, and later worked at Sperry-Rand UNIVAC, before joining the Accounting Department at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, she began a second career as a loving and devoted caregiver to the patients of Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, as well as others in the community. Margaret was a member of the Chicago Pneumatic Quarter Century Club and was a lifelong member of the Ilion First Baptist Church. She took great pride in her home and family. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing her Hawaiian guitar and then later in life, she loved listening to music and taking trips to the casino. She and Herbert spent many years raising and showing AKC registered Boxers, winning a number of blue ribbons and trophies. She is survived by two daughters: Linda Patten of Ilion and Debra Brigham of Utica; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Joan Brigham of Erie, PA and Steven and Elizabeth Brigham of Penn Yan, NY; four cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Patten and her companion Rory DeForrest, who was very special to Margaret, Michael Brigham, Marc Brigham, and Kyle Matteson; one brother-in-law, Arnold Brigham of Millport, NY; one sister-in-law, Margaret Brigham of Sauquoit, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by several sisters and brothers-in-law, and her special Uncle "Will." Per Margaret's wishes, a private memorial service, officiated by Larry Hagan of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, assisted by Sister Margaret Woods and Sister Mary Amodio of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica, will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.
