Obituary of Henry F. Huxtable

MILLERS MILLS - Henry Franklin Huxtable, age 74, of Millers Mills, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, New York after a heroic fight against idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on April 7, 1939, in Utica, NY, the son of the late Henry and Doris (O'Rourke) Huxtable, graduating from West Winfield Central School. Henry attended Cornell University. On January 21, 1961, he married Susan E. Walsh. Henry was a successful dairy farmer his entire life and took pride in the development of the family farm until he drew his last breath. He began farming with his father as a small boy, and his son Rick will carry on the family farm. Henry was a very active and athletic man his whole life, playing four varsity sports in high school (football, basketball, baseball and track), trying out for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1957, and playing in various softball, basketball, and golf leagues for years. Henry was a proud shareholder of the Green Bay Packers. He was an avid hunter of whitetail deer, and later in life, elk, high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Second home to Henry was his beloved hunting camp in Gray, NY, which he passed on to his grandsons just before his death. He was a proud and active member of the Millers Mills Grange # 581 for over sixty years, including holding the office of master, and serving for many years on the executive committee. Surviving Henry are his beloved wife, Susan; daughter and son-in-law, Colleen (Huxtable) and David Dye; his son, Rick Huxtable and his companion, Rebecca Luke; two grandsons, Cody and Colton Dye; sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Huxtable) and Richard Collins, all of Millers Mills; brother-in-law, Michael Walsh and his companion, Chris Dominick, of Salisbury, Maryland; nephews, Stephen and Kelly (Smith) Collins, of Ilion, NY, and Sean Walsh, of Ocean City, Maryland; and nieces, Kathleen (Collins) and Ronald Wheelock, of Millers Mills, NY, Erin (Walsh) Smith and companion Kenneth Perry, of Salisbury, Maryland, and Kristen (Walsh) and Brian Odum, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; half-uncles, David and Carole (Torok) Huxtable and Thomas and Katherine (Zawko) Huxtable; as well as many dear grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. He is survived by dear friends, Bob Ranger and Don Parsons, but predeceased by "partners-in-crime" Doug Dye, Fred King and Alan Blatt. Also in the eyes of Steve, Tammy and their son Steele Stalloch, Henry was a father / grandfather figure in their lives. Friends and relatives are invited to Henry's Memorial Service and celebration of life at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion.
