Obituary of Peter McKevitt

FRANKFORT: Peter J. McKevitt, 79, a long time Frankfort resident, passed into the loving hands of the Lord on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Masonic Care Community. Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 16, 1933, Peter was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (McNulty) McKevitt. He was a graduate of Manlius High School in Brooklyn and furthered his studies by attending and graduating with an Associate's Degree from Herkimer County Community College. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Peter served his country from 1952 -1956. On February 11, 1961, Peter was united in marriage to the former Ann LaPuma at St. Mary's Church in Frankfort; the couple shared 52 years of love, happiness and commitment to one another. Peter worked for many years as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office, retiring in 1995. Soft spoken, caring and humble with a keen sense of humor, he was a wonderful husband, father, godfather and friend to many. He held a deep devotion to his family, allegiance to his country and commitment to his church. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) BR 375, the S.S. Maria Addolorata Society of Frankfort and was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostle's Church, Frankfort. Peter enjoyed puttering around the home and "meticulous worker" best describes his ways. He enjoyed painting pictures and cross stitching with his wife, was an avid golfer, loved to play bingo and was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Mike Aha of Groton, MA; his in-laws, Martha Cobb and Frank and Marie LaPuma of Frankfort and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rosaleen Gallagher and Eileen O'Connor and his brothers, John and James McKevitt. Those wishing to express an act of kindness may make a donation in Peter's memory to Our Lady Queen of Apostle's Church, Frankfort, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of one's choice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, (Town of Frankfort) Ilion, NY, (315)894-8000. Peter's funeral service will commence on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort Street, Frankfort where his Funeral Mass will be offered by the Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Procession will then follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. The family is being cared for by Harry and Kevin Enea.
