Obituary of Benny Brandano

MOHAWK - Benny Brandano, age 92, of Mohawk and Deerfield Beach, Florida, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013, in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He was the son of Battista and Amelia (Forcucci) Brandano. He was born in Herkimer, NY, and graduated from Herkimer High School. He served in the US Army during World War II from October 1942 to November 1945, where he received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the rank of First Lieutenant. On December 7, 1945, he was married to Olga Davala, who predeceased him on February 17, 2013. He was a retired steamfitter and member of the United Association Union of Plumbers, Fitters, Welders and HVAC Service Techs, as well as his local Utica Union #112. Upon retirement, he formed Brandano Boiler and Piping. Benny was a proud member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a lifelong learner, health enthusiast, and an advocate of local affairs. Benny is survived by his brother, Anthony; his sister, Angelina Gallo; his children, John Brandano and his wife, Peggy, of Hillsboro Beach, FL, Susan Donnell and her husband, Michael, of Hilton Head Island, SC, Edward Brandano, of Herkimer, Patrick Brandano and his wife, Mary, of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Mary Anne, 'Mimi', Kaszycki and her husband, Peter, of Alpharetta, GA; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, John Rota; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Olga; his parents, Battista and Amelia; his brothers, Pasquale, Joseph l, Joseph ll, Angelo and John; and sisters, Mary Savage, Elvira Brandano, Anne Pellerito, Jenny Rota and Gloria Brandano; also by his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Brandano (Edward). Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
