Obituary of Leonard Dineen

Leonard Lee Dineen, 62, of 529 Dutchtown Road, Dolgeville, N.Y., Town of Salisbury, died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at his residence of natural causes. Leonard was born in Little Falls on May 2nd, 1951, the son of the late Leonard W. "Curly" and Martha (Doxstader) Dineen and attended Dolgeville Schools. He was affectionately known to family and friends as Lenny and Lucky Lenny. A Viet Nam veteran he entered the United States Army on October 22, 1969 and served honorably, being discharged on May 3, 1972 with the rank of SP4. While in Viet Nam he was a heavy equipment and crane operator. He earned the following medals for his service: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal w/60 device, Viet Nam Services Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, and 2 Overseas bars. He was an expert with the M-14 and M-16 Rifle. Leonard went to Wyoming where he worked on the oil rigs. Returning to this area he worked on construction for Laborers Union Local #35 out of Utica, New York. Leonard was a former member of the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club, the Salisbury Ridgerunners Snowmobile Club, and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many years of hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and had a special fondness for his dogs throughout the years. Leonard is survived by his brothers Brian Dineen and his companion Pat Raymo of Stratford, Jeffry and Wendy Dineen of Otego and his sisters Marlene Petkovsek of Dolgeville and Elaine Dineen and her fiancé Thomas Sadler of Dolgeville, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, along with aunts, an uncle and many cousins. He was married to the former Gina Broat. Leonard was predeceased by his sister Pamela Gross on July 31, 1993 and his nephews Patrick and Nate. A Celebration of Leonard's life will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2013 , which happens to be Pearl Harbor Day a special day for all veterans, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home, 3 Faville Avenue, Dolgeville, N. Y. Burial will be in Rural Park cemetery in the Spring. The family will gather at the Salisbury Fire House at the conclusion of the services and everyone is invited.
