Obituary of Leland M Nichols

Ilion: Mr. Leland M. Nichols, 82, of Central Avenue, passed away on December 11, 2013. Leland was born on March 11, 1931 in Litchfield, NY, a son of the late Wallace and Ethel (Storms) Nichols. He was married to Ellen Nichols in September 1953. He was educated in Frankfort schools. Mr. Nichols was employed by Pat Donohue Plowing in Ilion and spent many hours running a bulldozer with his special friend, Charles Williams. Surviving Leland are his companion of 29 years, Lyn Bishop; his children: Leland Nichols of Mohawk; Verna and her husband John Shasteen of Mississippi, Brenda Nichols of Utica, Peggy and husband James Davis, also of Mississippi, Nancy and husband George McCaw of Cold Brook, Tracy McCaw of Alabama, and Stacey and husband Kevin Guthrie of Florida; a sister-in-law, Esther "Dusty" Nichols; along with numerous grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Rachell, and great, great-great, and great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, including a special niece Beatrice, nephews, and lots of friends. He had many wonderful friends at Prindle Apartments. Leland was predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Wallace Nichols; four sons, Larry, Randy, Frederick, and Michael; brothers, Erwin, Malcome, Oren, Lyle, and Ronald; sisters, Verna, Shirley, and Joyce. In keeping with Leland's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Ilion/Frankfort VFW, Acme Road. He will be cremated and his cremains will be inurned in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland, NY. Leland's family would like to thank the Senior Network for the wonderful care they extended to him during his illness. The family is being cared for by Donald J. Applegate and Kevin E.
