Obituary of Marguerite LaBate RN

Mrs. Marguerite Mary LaBate, RN, a very loving and special Mother and wife died Sunday evening December 15th, 2013 at her residence of natural causes. She was born in Dolgeville, NY on June 22, 1920 the daughter of the late Sebastian and Margaret (Forino) Russo. She was a graduate of Dolgeville High School, class of 1938. She also graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Amsterdam in 1941. She continued to work at St. Mary's Hospital as a supervisor of the operating room for the next 5 years. Gifted with a kind and understanding heart, she continued to work in the capacity of a Registered Nurse at the Little Falls Hospital as a "Private Duty Nurse" and also in private homes in the valley. She also worked in the Department of Social Services in Herkimer. In 1973 she was employed as an Industrial Nurse at Special Metals Corp. in New Hartford, NY retiring from there in 1983. She was united in marriage to Joseph LaBate on August 11th, 1946 in St. Josephs Church Dolgeville, with a Nuptial Mass, celebrated by Rev. John Fitzgerald. They recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Marguerite was an exceptional person who had undying and unlimited love for her family and home, with a personal and unique flair for decorating. She was a treasured wife, mother, sister and friend. She was truly devoted to her church and possessed supreme confidence in her God. As a consolation, she derived much pleasure and satisfaction in organizing trips to various vacation areas and casino's as a fund raising venture for various organizations and her church. Throughout the years she was a member of various organizations: the American Medical Association, St. Francis DePalo Society, and President of the Village of Herkimer Senior Citizens, the Ladies of St. Anthony & Josephs Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary #4915 and the AARP. She is survived by her husband Joseph of 67 years, her sons James and his wife Lois Jeanne LaBate of Schuyler,Joseph LaBate and his Fiance'e Joan DuPont of Herkimer, a Sister Alexandria Near of Dolgeville, a brother in law Peter LaBate of Amsterdam sister in laws Mary LaBate and Madeline (Robert) Van Allen both of Amsterdam , several Nieces & Nephews, a very special friends & neighbors Eugene & Sue Campagna of Herkimer. She was predeceased by a brother Andrew Russo, and her sisters Mary Graney and Millie Antinelli. Marguerite was a devoted wife, mother, and home maker who has left us each with beautiful memories, traditions and life lessons that will live on with love in her memory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning December 19, 2013 at 10AM in the Church of St. Anthony & St. Josephs on South Main Street Herkimer, NY. Rev. Thomas Lawless will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Spring in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dolgeville. There are NO CALLING HOURS. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony & St. Josephs Church in her memory. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Brian A. Roberts of the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue in Dolgeville.
