MOHAWK-HERKIMER - Elaine M. Wood, age 72, of Farber Lane, Herkimer, formerly of Mohawk and Ilion, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, with her family by her side. She was born on January 23, 1941, in Penn Yan, NY, the daughter of Benjamin and Gladys Jean (Mapes) Hovey. Elaine attended Ilion schools and graduated from the Herkimer Co. BOCES LPN program. On December 17, 1959, she was married to Paul D. Wood, Jr. He died on February 23, 1998. She was employed as an assembler at MDS for over twenty years. Elaine was also employed as an LPN (Phlebotomist) at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion, for several years. She was a past member of MOVAC. Elaine's life centered around her family, children, grandchildren and her friends. Survivors include her three daughters and sons-in-law, Terry Lee and Tom Suits, whom she resided with in Herkimer, Keitha Jean and Victor Bowman, of Frankfort-Schuyler, and Mary Marie and Keith Baker, of Herkimer; Her son, James Wood, of Utica; four granddaughters, Jessica Lee Renodin and husband, Joshua, Trista Louise Perry and husband, Christopher, Crystal Lynn Knopka and husband, Jay, and Christina Marie Lyman and husband, Shawn; four grandsons, Courtney Bowman and wife, Nicole, Charles Paul Baker and wife, Sierra, Christopher Allen Baker, and Camron James Wood; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Michael Wood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and two sons, Wayne Allen Wood and Benjamin Paul Wood, her brother-in-law, Eric Wood, and her brother, Elmo Hovey. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd. (old Main St.), Ilion, with Father John Bassett, Rector of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 7, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home.
