Obituary of Mary J Barbuto

FRANKFORT - Mrs. Mary J. (Rappa) Barbuto, age 96, a dearly loved resident of Frankfort, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, January 13, 2014 at the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion, NY (4th Floor). Mary was born on March 24, 1917 in Frankfort, a daughter of the late Benedetto and Frances (Licari) Rappa. She was educated in Frankfort schools. On August 30, 1941, she and Nicholas A. Barbuto were married by the Reverend Edward J. Hogan in St. Mary's Church, also in Frankfort. Mary and Nick shared a loving and devoted union of nearly 42 years, until Nick's passing on April 18, 1983. Mary was an accomplished seamstress, and was employed with Joy Taylor Garments and Derby Dress Factory in Herkimer, retiring in 1979. Despite her many activities, her work, and her meticulous home, she still found time to volunteer her sewing talents for the Frankfort Police Department. She was very active in the Frankfort community and had many, many friends. Mary was a member of the Addolorata Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and the Young at Heart Seniors. She loved her church, and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, and a longtime member of its Altar Rosary Society. Mary loved to bake and was part of its "cookie team." She had a wonderful spirit of volunteerism and gave much time and talent to Catholic Charities, the United Way, RSVP, and Office for the Aging, and was named "Volunteer of the Year. " She had her own private "meals on wheels program!" Mary leaves behind her loving and devoted sons, Francis A. Barbuto and his fiancé Susan Kinscherf of Hampton Bays, NY and Nicholas B. Barbuto and his wife Mary Ann of Frankfort; grandchildren, Peter and Elizabeth Barbuto of Saratoga Springs, Mark and Jessica Barbuto of Jamesville, and Matthew Barbuto of Utica; and two great-grandchildren, Kyan and Mia. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Phil Nicastro of Ilion and a sister-in-law, Rose Luppino of Herkimer, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Nicholas, brothers, John, Tito, and Joe Rappa, and sisters, Betty (Rappa) Palumbo, Nina (Rappa) Simonette, Florence (Rappa) Nicastro, and Jennie (Rappa) DeRosa. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (town of Frankfort). Mary's funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014. At 10:00 AM, Deacon Peter Manno will offer prayer from the Chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home and at 10:30 AM, the cortege will arrive at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, South Frankfort Street, Frankfort, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Paul Catena, Pastor, assisted by Deacon James Bower. The staff of Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort will accommodate the family with full grave burial in the family plot, which will immediately follow the funeral mass. The Red Hat Society will meet at 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 16, to pay their respects and the Young at Heart Seniors at 5:30 PM. Mary's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care and kindness she received at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, especially to the Fourth Floor staff and all who assisted with her care. Her family has entrusted all funeral arrangements to The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, (Town of Frankfort) Ilion, NY, Funeral Directors Harry & Kevin Enea, (315) 894-8000.
