Obituary of Charles B McCumber

LITTLE FALLS, NY - Charles "Charlie" Burton McCumber, 73, of Little Falls, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 2, 2014, with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of the late George and Anna Mae (Britton) McCumber. He attended Little Falls High School. He worked at Dresher Furniture (Chris Psotka) in Little Falls for 28 years, followed by Little Falls Carpet (Ed Knapp) for 13 years. At one time he served as a "special" police officer for the City of Little Falls and was Chairman of the 1970 Diamond Jubilee. He was a member of the following clubs: LF Elks Lodge 42, LF Sons of the American Legion, LF Polish Club, East Herkimer Fish and Game and an honorary member of the DeCarlo Staffo Post. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers: Jere, Roger and Robert, and sister, Betty Lou DeLuca. He is survived by his daughter Sandra (Philip) Brown and three sons: Charles (Dawn), Wayne (Evangeline) and Steven (Michelle), six grandchildren: Erica, Kaitlin, Dalton, Jaren, Braden, Marya and one great-grandchild: Jaksen as well as several nieces and nephews. Charles is also survived by his best friend, Joan Lynch, and her children: Gina (Jeff) French, Janet Jones, Matthew (Esther) Hibbard, as well as Joan's five grandchildren: Courtney, Alex, Zachary, Marissa and Selena. Charlie met numerous people throughout the years and would like to extend a warm thank-you to all who touched his life. Charlie by nature was a very sensitive man. He always liked a good laugh, and was a loving father and grandfather. He was always known to give a helping hand when needed. Two of his enjoyments were his trips to Lake George and the State Fair. Charlie's family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Arul Kannan, the 3rd Floor nursing staff and ER Department at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Faxton-St. Lukes Regional Cancer Center and Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
