Obituary of Evelyn P Volpe

LITTLE FALLS — Mrs. Evelyn P. Volpe, 91, of Suwanee, GA, entered into eternal rest peacefully after a short illness on Monday, February 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn was born in Amsterdam, NY, on May 4, 1922, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Gisondi) Reno. She graduated from Little Falls High School and was a long-time resident of Little Falls. On June 17, 1945, Albert Volpe and Evelyn Reno were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Church in Little Falls and shared a loving union for over 55 years until his passing in May 2001. After their retirement Evelyn and Albert became snow birds wintering at their home in Spring Hill, FL and returning to their roots in Little Falls during the more temperate months. Following Albert's death Evelyn moved to Florida and eventually to Atlanta (Suwanee), GA to be closer to family. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Albert and is survived by her loving children, Marilyn Smith and husband Don of Atlanta, David Volpe and wife Mary Jean of Atlanta, Richard Volpe and his wife Laurie of Pittsburgh, and Francis Volpe and wife Jackie of the Nashville area; eight grandchildren, Aaron Smith of Syracuse, Jason Smith of Atlanta, Jennifer Volpe of Atlanta and Michael Volpe of Arlington, VA, Gina and Alex Volpe of Pittsburgh, and Danielle (Volpe) Stanfield and Nicole Volpe of the Nashville area; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters; several nieces, nephews and cousins. While in Little Falls, Evelyn was a member of the Holy Family Parish and also a member of the Little Falls Lady Elks Lodge No. 42. In her early years Evelyn worked at Cherry Burrell during the WWII era and was last employed by Beech-Nut Corp in Canajoharie, NY before retiring. However, her proudest accomplishment was that of her family and dedication as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She proudly served as matriarch at 23 consecutive family reunions held at Lake Lanier in North Georgia every summer. All who dined at her table knew of her cooking and baking skills, never leaving without something for the road. To know her was to love her. Her smile, hospitality and unmatched generosity were contagious to all who had the pleasure of meeting her. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls starting with calling hours from 9 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a prayer service at 10:30 AM. At 11 AM a funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main and John Sts., Little Falls, with the Rev. Terence Healy, officiating. Interment will take place later this spring at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, alongside her husband, Albert. Following the Mass the family will visit with relatives and friends at a memorial reception at the Little Falls Elks Club, corner of Gansevoort and Ann Sts. In lieu of flowers, the family desires that contributions in memory of Evelyn be made to the American Cancer Society (1-800-227-2345 or www.cancer.org). Sympathies can be extended to the Volpe family at 240 Berry Glen Ct. Alpharetta, GA 30022 or sent to dvolpe@netzero.net.
