Obituary of Ida Scialdo Guzzo

Herkimer: Mrs. Ida Scialdo Guzzo, 98, of N. Washington Street, passed away peacefully in Folts Home on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Ida was born on November 7, 1915 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Claudio and Bettina (Camparone) Scialdo. She was a lifelong Herkimer resident. Ida received her education in Herkimer schools and was a graduate of Utica Business School. She and Thomas F. Guzzo were married by the Reverend Purificato in St. Anthony's Church, and together shared a long and devoted union until his passing in 1989. Mrs. Guzzo was employed for many years as a secretary for C. Scialdo & Sons, Herkimer. She also held employment at Union Store, Markson Furniture and the Village of Herkimer. Ida was a faithful communicant of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church. She possessed a wonderful community spirit, shown by the many organizations for which she volunteered, namely, the American Heart Association, the Hearts and Hands Gift Shop of Folts Homes, Catholic Charities, and the Herkimer Lions Club. She served as president of the Resident Council at Folts Homes-Claxton Manor for many years. When she wasn't doing for others, she enjoyed bowling. She was an avid bowler and was a member of the bowling league in Herkimer, winning many awards, and developing many friendships. Ida was a devoted sister and aunt and leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Rudolph and Rena Scialdo of Herkimer; beloved nieces and nephews, Donna & Sherry Scialdo & family, Joanne & Joe Sciarra & family, Gary & Phyllis Scialdo & family, Scott Scialdo & Francesca LaRosa & family, Claudio & Cindy Scialdo & family, Tina & Jerry Helmer & family, Jimmy Scialdo & family, Billy & Diann Scialdo & family, Mike Scialdo, Jr. & family, Marsha Scialdo & family, Richard & Jan Scialdo & family, Barbara & Stan Plocharczyk & family, Marshall, Jr. & Sue Scialdo & family, Renee & Sam Shevat & family, Rudolph, Jr. & Deborah Scialdo & family; along with several cherished great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and a very special friend, Frannie DeJohn. Her brothers and their wives, Roland & Marian Scialdo, William & Mary Scialdo, Michael & Lena Scialdo, Andrew & Marie Scialdo, and Marshall & Lucy Scialdo; her niece, Andrea Scialdo; and great-nephews, Sgt. Marc Anthony Scialdo and Corey Scialdo, predeceased Ida. She also cherished the memory of her beloved pets, Brandy and Chichi. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer. Funeral Services will begin with prayer at the funeral home at 8:45 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Her Funeral Mass celebrated by the Reverend Terence Healy will follow at 9:30 AM in Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church, S. Main Street, Herkimer. Ida will be interred next to her beloved husband, Tom, in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, W. German Street.
