Obituary of Wanda O Gifford

HERKIMER - Mrs. Wanda O. Gifford, age 73, of State Route 28, Herkimer, NY (Town of Herkimer) passed away early Monday morning February 10, 2014 at Little Falls Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 2, 1940 in the Town of Warren, a daughter of the late Chester and Stefani (Peplinski) Szeflinski. Wanda attended and graduated from Richfield Springs Central School, Class of 1958 where she was the recipient of high honors. She was an accomplished clarinet player, having reached "state" level of competition. She had been a lifelong resident of our area. On May 21, 1960 Wanda and Peter J. Gifford were joined in marriage at St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, NY. She was last employed as a secretary with Bruce Ward of Herkimer. The family had relocated to Richfield Springs in 1978 and have resided in Herkimer since 1986. Wanda had worked with various local realtors for over 20 years as a real estate agent, including with Martha's Realty of Herkimer. She enjoyed working with her husband Peter on their family dairy farm known for Nearwood Registered Holsteins. She was also a member of the OHM Holstein Club. Wanda absolutely loved floral gardening and entertaining. She prepared magnificent flower beds. She enjoyed reading and playing cards. Her greatest times were around family and friends. She was an avid antique collector having frequented auctions and garage sales. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Peter J.; her children Kevin P. Gifford and his fiancée Kathy Hewes of Springfield, VT; Bradley P. Gifford and his wife Susan M. of West Newbury, MA; and Althea F. Noyes and her husband Gary D. of Little Falls; grandchildren Miles O. Gifford; Stephanie M. Gifford; Maia E. Gifford; Tori A. Gifford; and Erin J. Noyes; nieces, nephews, cousins and many close special friends. She was preceded in death by a brother Paul Szeflinski in 2013; and a brother-in-law Frank Gifford In 1974. Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 13, 2014 at 4:00 PM from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY with Rev. Brian Engel, Pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church officiating. Spring interment will take place in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville, NY. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours prior to the funeral from 1 until 4PM at the funeral home.
