Obituary of Nancy Spohn

FRANKFORT - Mrs. Nancy (DiGristina) Spohn, age 93, a resident of the Presbyterian Home of CNY and a friend to many, who lived the majority of her life in Frankfort, NY, peacefully passed away on Friday February 14, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Nancy was born on April 9th, 1920, in Frankfort, the eldest of seven children to the late Crelia (Florence) (Blandina) and Vincenzo (James) DiGristina. She attended Frankfort schools but had to release herself from schooling in her junior year to go to work to help support the family. She worked for four years at the Derby Dress Shop in Herkimer, three years at the Little Falls Dress Factory, ten years at Remington Arms in Ilion and ten years at General Electric in Utica until her retirement in 1982. On November 21, 1941, she married Anthony Spohn, of which they shared 71 years together. Before her illness, Nancy was an active parishioner of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Columbian Society. Nancy was a very sweet, selfless lady who opened her home and heart to everyone. She never spoke an unkind word and you could always find a kettle of sauce and meatballs ready to feed you when you popped into her kitchen. She loved her family, each and everyone one of them, especially her grandchildren and great - grandchildren who were the apples of her eyes. Besides her husband, Anthony, she leaves her daughter, Rosalie Spohn and her fiancé, Dennis Klampert, of Utica, NY; two grandchildren, John and Tiffany Accattato, of Tampa, Florida, and Sarah and Gary Beaton, of Whitesboro; and three great-grandchildren, Anthony Accattato, Gianina Accattato and and Colton Michael Beaton. She also leaves one brother and four sisters, Leo (Clara) DiGristina, of Schuyler, Mary Gerace, of Florida, Rose Juliano, of Schuyler, Claire Lidano, of Herkimer, and Ceil (Bill) Amey, of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Mary DiGristina, of Schuyler; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles DiGristina, and three brothers-in-law, Dominick Gerace, Joseph Juliano and Joseph Lidano. Nancy's family would like to thank the entire staff of the Presbyterian Home of CNY, especially the Cedar Unit, for their care, kindness and love shown to Nancy during the time she made her home there. Any family concern about Mom's entering a nursing home two years ago was quickly allayed by this special group of caregivers. A special thank you to Nancy's dining room friends, Frances Laria, Angela Debella, and the late Rose Mary Roth, who made her time at the home a pleasant one. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 9:30 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, NY, where prayer will be offered, and at 10:30 AM from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, South Frankfort Street, Village of Frankfort, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated. Procession will follow to Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort, where final committal prayers will be offered in the cemetery chapel. The pall bearers will escort Nancy to the family plot for burial. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Town of Frankfort, on Tuesday evening, February 18th, from 4 until 8 PM.
