Obituary of Julia Ostasz Barrett

LITTLE FALLS - Mrs. Julia (Ostasz) Barrett, age 93, a lifelong resident of Little Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2014, at the Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Little Falls, NY. She had been a resident there for the past three years. Julia's family extends a heartfelt thanks to all of the staff members at Alpine for their care and kindness. Julia was born May 18, 1920 in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Czarnecki) Ostasz. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School. On May 11, 1941 she was united in marriage with Charles F. Barrett of Frankfort. The ceremony was performed at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Mr. & Mrs. Barrett shared in a blessed union of 53 years of marriage until the passing of Charlie on April 17, 1994. Julia was a very sweet lady who opened her heart to everyone. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved animals, especially "Kitty" her favorite pet. Julia was a member of the Holy Family Parish in Little Falls. She was a hard worker and was employed for 24 years at Gilbert Knitting Mills in Little Falls and upon its closing worked at other various dress factories in the Little Falls area. She was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Marciniak and Anne Ruffalo and by two brothers Mike Ostasz and John Ostasz. She is survived by her son and daughter - in - law: Maryann and Terry Barrett of Little Falls; her grandchildren: Dr. Matthew Barrett and his wife Lauren of Baltimore, Maryland; and Luke Barrett of Little Falls as well as many nieces and nephews. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a calling hour at the funeral home on Thursday morning the 20th of February from 9:30 AM until 1030. (One Hour) Funeral services will begin at the funeral home following the calling hour with a prayer being offered at 10:30 AM. Procession will then follow to the church. At 11:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main and John Streets, Little Falls, with the Rev. Terence Healy officiating. Spring interment will take place in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Those wishing are asked to consider contributions in memory of Julia the Holy Family Parish or to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
