Obituary of Steve S. Glogowski

MOHAWK - Mr. Steve S. Glogowski, age 96, passed away on Monday evening, February 17, 2014, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY. He was born on September 28, 1917 in Herkimer, NY a son of the late Martin and Mary (Parosky) Glogowski and was educated in Herkimer schools. He was a lifelong area resident. Steve was a World War II Veteran and served our country with the United States Army 27th Infantry Division and was stationed in the Pacific. Through his heroic actions in fighting for our country he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was united in marriage with the former Anne J. Tresohlavy on September 28, 1946 in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. The couple had shared in a blessed union of over 46 years until the passing of Anne on January 9, 1993. He was last employed with Remington Arms in Ilion as a machinist and had also worked with Sperry-Rand UNIVAC for over 25 years. He retired in 1982. Steve was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk as well as holding the honor of Past Commander of the Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4915 of Herkimer. He was a member of the military order of the Purple Heart and enjoyed being a part of the 'depression boys.' He is survived by his children: Steve Glogowski and his wife Judy of Mohawk; Alan Glogowski and Chasity of Herkimer; Mary Ann Humphrey of Lanesboro, MA; John Glogowski of Mohawk; and Peter Glogowski and wife Elizabeth of Herkimer; eight granddaughters: Sarah, Leah, Amy, Regina, Kali, Alyssa, Audrey, and Elise; two great grandsons, James and Henry; In Laws: Helen Beauchamp of Mohawk; Nettie Rix of Florida; Stella Glogowski of Herkimer; and Helen Glogowski of Herkimer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters Eva Luppino, Jennie Maliniak, and Katherine Wills; as well as five brothers: Michael, Frank, Walter, Edward and Peter Glogowski. His calling hours at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY will be held on Thursday evening February 20th from 6 until 8 PM. Members of the Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post can gather at 7 o'clock for their service at the funeral parlor Thursday evening. Contributions in memory of Steve may be considered to the American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Friday February 21st at 10:15 AM from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home where prayer will be offered. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, with the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director.
