Obituary of Margaret Short Savage

DOLGEVILLE - SCHUYLER - Mrs. Margaret "Jane" Short Savage, age 84, a longtime resident of Dolgeville, NY and who has lived for quite some time with her loving daughter Darlene in Schuyler, passed away on Thursday February 20, 2014 at the Valley Health Services in Herkimer. She was born on May 20, 1929 in Rochester, NY a daughter of the late Carl and Emily (Schmidt) Ortlieb and was educated and graduated from Rochester schools. She was married to Melvin Duane Short for 32 years who predeceased her. She later married John Savage who also passed away. Jane's family raised her family in the Dolgeville area and she nurtured them with constant love and support. She last worked with Unisys (based in Philadelphia, PA) as a field engineer. She actually worked with Univac in Utica for many years and when it was purchased by Unisys she relocated to Philadelphia is when she retired. She was a member of the New Life Church in Herkimer. The church meant so much to Jane. She is survived by her loving family including her children: Darlene Miller of Frankfort; Charlene Brinski and her husband William of Burlington, NC; Andrea Tobin and her husband Ray of North Pownell, VT; Melanie Sweet and her husband Lory Paul Sweet of Buckeye, AZ and Bradley Short and wife Cynthia of Russellville, AK; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by one brother Charles Ortlieb and one sister Elma Lyons. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 24, 2014 at 2:00 PM from the New Life Church, 337 Protection Avenue, Herkimer, NY with the Rev. David Hayner, Pastor, officiating. Spring interment next to her husband Jack Savage will take place at Dolgeville Cemetery. Calling hours AT THE CHURCH will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday from 1 until 2 PM. Those wishing are asked to consider donations in memory of Jane to the New Life Church or to the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the services on Monday. A very special thank you is extended to the Valley Health Services for the compassion shown. The family is being served by their longtime friend Funeral Director, Brian A.
