Obituary of Mary G Dygert

MOHAWK-ILION - Mary (Grzeszczuk) Dygert, age 94, of State Rt. 28, Vickerman Hill Rd., Mohawk, formerly of Ilion, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at the Folts Home, Herkimer. She was born on October 13, 1919, in Herkimer, the daughter of John and Anna (Koral) Grzeszczuk. Mary graduated from Shoemaker Hill School District No. 9 (one room school house) on Shoemaker Hill Rd., Mohawk. She was married to Robert "Bob" Dygert on September 18, 1943, at St. Joseph's Church, Herkimer. He died on January 11, 2000. She was a former member of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, and the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. Mary enjoyed gardening and traveling. Survivors include her son, Edward "Eddie" Dygert, with whom she resided in Mohawk; her sister and brother-in-law, Stella and John Bereza, of Queensbury, NY; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Mary Dygert, of Mohawk; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four sisters, Katherine Lawrence, Frances Serour, and Helen and Paulene Schafranek; and three brothers, Stanley, Stanley and Tony Grzeszczuk. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Mary's Funeral Service on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened location, at 102 West St., Ilion, with Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director of Blessed Sacrament Church of Mohawk, officiating. Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. In keeping with Mary's wishes, there are no scheduled calling hours. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Church, 54 E. Main St., Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
