Obituary of John Francis White

ILION-FRANKFORT - Mr. John Francis "Whitey" White, age 56, of the Town of Frankfort, NY, entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, March 6, 2014. Throughout his journey John has been surrounded with constant love and support of his family and friends. Born in Herkimer, NY on April 29, 1957, John was the son of the late Charles James and Helen Myra (Murphy) White. Raised and educated locally, he graduated from Mohawk High School in 1976 and excelled in high school football. He was married to the former Gail Carpenter on September 3, 2004. Whitey was currently employed as the water plant operator with the Village of Ilion Water Commission and as a deputy for the past 29 years with the Herkimer County Sherriff's Office. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union182, the US Naval Reserves Seabees, the Ilion Snow Drifter's, was a safety instructor at the Mohawk Fish & Game Club and attended mechanic school for the water department. For those who knew Whitey, you knew he was a conversationalist (he had the gift to gab), a knowledgeable man, one blessed with kindness, and a generous spirit. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish, golf, play softball, camp, especially in Old Forge and Inlet and enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle with the "Blue Knights". He had a love for his "retrieving dogs" and his very special friends, Parker and Murphy. Most importantly, he was devoted to his daughters and grandchildren and was involved in their lives and activities. He will be sadly missed by all. John is survived by his wife, Gail of Frankfort; his beloved daughters, Kristy Enea and husband Kevin of Ilion, Sara White of Latham, Nicole Patrei and husband Nicholas of Utica, Michelle Childress and husband Jacob of Ilion; his cherished grandchildren, Claire, Hannah and Jenna Enea, Aeriana White-Monohan, Nathan Myers, Sophia and Samuel Patrei, Hunter Collis and Mason and Camryn Childress. He is also survived by his brothers, Douglas White and wife Margaret of Rome and Jeffrey White of Ilion; several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, aunts, uncles and close dear friends. He is predeceased by his in-laws, Bernard and Leona Carpenter. The family is grateful to the doctors and staff at St. Elizabeth's ICU for the care and compassion shown to John during his stay there. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in John's memory may do so by contributing to the American Heart Association in honor of his granddaughter, Hannah Enea; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 4 until 7 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort). 315-894-8000. His funeral will be held on Monday March 10, 2014 at 9:15 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM from the Church of the Annunciation, West Street, Ilion where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Paul Catena, Pastor. Interment will take place in the spring at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls, NY. The family is being cared for by Harry J. and his son-in-law, Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors.
