Obituary of Lucy A. Giaquinto

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mrs. Lucy A. (Lucia Fortucci) Giaquinto, age 92, a longtime resident of Spring Street in St. Johnsville, NY passed away on Sunday March 23, 2014 at the St. Johnsville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Lucy was comforted with the support of her faith-filled family at her side. Lucy and her family received outstanding care and compassion from the entire staff of the Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in St. Johnsville, especially Dr. Gregory O'Keefe and the "angels of the C-Wing." She was born on May 15, 1921 in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Frank and Angela (DeVincentis) Fortucci. She was educated in Little Falls schools. On September 25, 1943 she was joined in marriage with Dominick A. Giaquinto in St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls. The couple shared in a blessed union of nearly 65 years of marriage together. Mr. Giaquinto passed away on August 14, 2008. Lucy had a strong faith and for many years was a communicant of the former St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville. She had worked as a seamstress with Corso Dress Shop in St. Johnsville and at one time worked with National Automotive Fibres. Through the years Lucy held memberships with the Rosary Society of St. Patrick's Church, the St. Johnsville Senior Saints, and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Lucy's first and foremost priority in life was her family and friends. She was deeply and dependably committed and dedicated to them all; they were all so very important to her. The admirable qualities that she continuously exhibited throughout life along with her strong will were loved and respected by all who knew her. She and her husband Dominick were proud of the customs of their Italian heritage, passing them down to their children and grandchildren. Survivors include her beloved family: sons, Frank Giaquinto and his wife Carol of Little Falls; and Dominick Giaquinto of Clifton Park, NY; a daughter, Marie Vara and her husband Hector of Yucaipa, California; four cherished grandchildren, Anthony Giaquinto and his wife Jennifer, Mark Giaquinto, Angela Vara - McCann and her husband Mike, and Matthew Vara and his wife Corri, three adored great grandchildren: Ashley, Taylor, and Christopher Giaquinto. Lucy was very excited and anticipating the birth of her soon to be great grandbaby Brooklyn as well. Also surviving are nieces, and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dominick; her sisters: Mary Fortucci, Stella Staffo, and Carmella Dukeshire and her brother Alfred Fortucci. Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 27, 2014. The family invites relatives and friends to gather with them Thursday morning at 9:30 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville, NY where a brief service of prayer will be held by family friend Reverend Joseph Famulare. Following the prayer, a funeral procession will begin to Little Falls, NY where at 11:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Patrick Butler at Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Streets, Little Falls. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Johnsville Cemetery. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours at The Enea Family Funeral Home (Center Street location) on Wednesday the 26th of March from 5 until 8 PM. At 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening there will be a prayer service at the funeral home with the Reverend Shawn Dugan.
