HERKIMER-FRANKFORT - Joyce Irons, age 70, of N. Prospect St., Herkimer, formerly of Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Home. She was born on May 3, 1943, in Herkimer, the daughter of Howard and Thelma (Cushman) Elthorp. Joyce graduated from Frankfort schools and Utica School for professional nursing at St. Elizabeth and Utica College. She was employed at various hospitals for thirty years, including Syracuse V.A. and St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. Most recently she was employed at Faxton Hospital from 1987 to 1993. Joyce was a member of St. Francis De Sales Church, Herkimer and former Eucharistic Minister, Rosary group and Marion helpers. She was also an avid reader of true crime and detective stories. Surviving family members cherishing her memory are her twin sister and her husband, Janet and Eugene Kelly, of Frankfort; her nephew and his wife, Patrick and Cynthia Kelly, of Cedarville; very special great-niece and Goddaughter, Amber Marie Kelly and her daughter, Autumn Rose Kelly; Godson, Michael Kelly; many close and dear friends, Leonard and Betty Riddell, of Ilion, Trina and Rick Pettengill and daughter, Klarissa, of Ilion, Jean Goettel, of Liverpool, Jill young, Richard and Pat Mas, of N. Utica and Pat's mother, Maureen; all the staff and Gerry Elthorp at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare; and very special friend, Matthew Gabriel, of Herkimer. She was predeceased by her parents. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. Francis De Sales Church, 219 N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Mark Cunningham, Pastor. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.
