Obituary of Lawrence J Lamanna

LITTLE FALLS: Lawrence J. Lamanna, 90, a lifelong Little Falls area resident passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Basset Medical Center, Cooperstown, with the love and support of his family by his side. He was born on October 8, 1923 in Little Falls, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Christina (Visconti) Lamanna. Lawrence was educated in Little Falls Schools and married the former Mary A. Rizzi in 1947 in St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls, sharing 57years of love and devotion toward each other until her passing on January 4, 2004. Lawrence was proud of his country and on February 23, 1943 he entered into the United States Army, serving as a Corporal in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. During his time spent in the military, he was the recipient of the Good Conduct and the Asiatic Pacific Medals. He was honorably discharged on November 5, 1945 and was proud to have attended the World War II Memorial trip to Washington, D.C. Lawrence worked for over 30 years for Cherry Burrell Corporation as a welder and plant supervisor, retiring in 1986. He also at one time worked for A&P Food Stores in Little Falls, HP Snyder Manufacturing and Univac. He was a member of the DeCarlo Staffo Post, Little Falls and Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. Lawrence engaged in many special activities; as he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, vegetable and flower gardening, and canning. He was well known for his carpentry work and craftsmanship, making cradles for his grandchildren and taking great pride in his home that he built with his "own two hands". Another hobby that kept him occupied for many hours was his train set. He kept his children and grandchildren close to his heart and nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time with them. He will be truly missed by his family. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Patricia Lamanna of Herkimer; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Ronald E. Urich of Little Falls, his beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, and Joshua Lamanna and Sean Urich. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Maneen of Ilion, his in-laws, Rose and Cece Lamanna and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Terry Lamanna who passed away in 1950; his brothers, Anthony, Louis, Patrick, Rocco and Joseph Lamanna; and his sisters, Rose Francesco, Angelina Colangelo and Nancy Yacabucci. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY (315)823-2424 on Monday, April 14, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Lawrence's funeral service will commence on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, beginning with prayer at 10:15 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home and at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, corner of Main/John Streets, Little Falls, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Terence Healy, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Procession will then follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. Those wishing to express an act of kindness may make a donation to Holy Family Parish, Little Falls: envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
