HERKIMER. John J. Macrina, Jr., 78, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. His family and friends had been at his side during his illness. Born in the family home on Dewey Ave. in Herkimer on November 16, 1935 John was the son of the late John J. and Mildred (Lucy) Macrina, Sr. Raised and educated locally, John attended Herkimer schools and he honorably served his country with the United States Army from 1955-1959. He married the former Karen Goerger on June 26, 1961 in Ilion; the couple shared 52 years of commitment and unconditional love toward one another. John worked for many years as a cabinet maker for Hales Manufacturing Company, Herkimer. He always maintained a high moral code and a conservative nature. John was a fine example of an honorable man and a good husband, father and role model to his family. John was an active member of the church, its activities and the jail ministry. John taught religious education for many years, held bible studies and ministered musically to the HARC residents. John expended the most energy and love as patriarch of his cherished family. Spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came first and he will be sadly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; his children, Mark and Katie Macrina and Tony and Carol Macrina all of Mohawk, Matthew and Sue Macrina of Stittville, Michael and Julie Macrina of Virginia, Michele Macrina of Herkimer and Daniel and Amy Macrina of Virginia; his beloved grandchildren, Mark John and Carl Macrina, Brandon and Brittany Macrina, Brenna Macrina, Jacob and Adam Macrina, Antonio Morra, Noah Macrina and Sarah and Laura Yaghy; great grandchildren, Mackenzy and Lotus Macrina.
