LION: Margaret P. (Peg) Marley, 88, passed away peacefully on Holy Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Folts Home, Herkimer. Born in Ilion, NY on June 7, 1925, Peg was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Curley) Morris. Raised and educated locally, she attended Ilion High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1943. She furthered her education attending Rochester Institute of Technology and was the first class to graduate from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute with an Associate's Degree. On September 11, 1948, she was united in marriage to John J. Marley at Annunciation Church in Ilion with whom she shared 42 years of love and devotion to until his passing on July 4, 1991. During her younger years, Peg sold real estate and later worked as a bookkeeper for the Village of Ilion Light Department, retiring in 1982. Peg served on the Board of Directors of the Mohawk Homestead for 25 years, was active in the Ilion Democratic Party, the Ilion Historical Club, Friends of the Ilion Library and was a faithful communicant of Annunciation Church. Peg was blessed with an optimistic spirit and a love of life. She embraced those around her into her enthusiasm and sense of fun. She enjoyed growing up; 35 years of gatherings at the family camp at Sylvan Beach and then 35 years at camp at Piseco Lake. In her leisure time she loved to play bridge and travel, especially taking trips with her husband John and family throughout the United States, Europe and spending winters in Florida. She was a skilled seamstress, had a gift for needlework, quilting and making pressed flower arrangements. She is survived by her children, Matthew and Deborah Marley, Melinda Marley and Meg and Dean Liberty all of Ilion; her beloved grandchildren, Allison Marley and Jacob Linderberry, Ashley and Kyle McDonald, Benjamin Marley and Samantha Fox, Jack Liberty, Connor Marley and Ted Liberty; her 2 cherished great grandchildren, Dash and Ryder McDonald; her brothers, Alfred Morris and his wife Suzanne of Ilion, Donald Morris, James Morris and Robert Morris and his wife Anne all of Florida, and Richard Morris of Massachusetts; her sister-in-law, Mary Marley of Ilion and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
