Obituary of Anthony Peter Polus II

HERKIMER: Anthony Peter Polus, II, 70, a long time Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, with his loving family by his side. Born in Syracuse, NY on January 15, 1944, Peter was the son of the late Anthony Peter and Mary (Branck) Polus. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School and furthered his education by attending Syracuse University and graduating with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. On November 26, 1966, Peter was united in marriage to the former Gail Lauer with whom he shared a wonderful and loving relationship filled with great affection and admiration. Peter began his working career with General Electric in Shemya, Alaska. Later in his 50 year career he was the founder of ADS of Mohawk, Petroleum Systems and was a Manufacturer Representative for Peter Polus Company (PPC). Peter's ambitions were to be a manufacturer and keep his children close to him by providing employment for each of them and in 1992 he founded Fiberdyne Labs of Frankfort. He currently held the position of Chairman of the Board for Fiberdyne Labs. The patriarch of his family, Peter loved and protected his family unconditionally and anytime he was surrounded by his family was precious time. During his childhood years he loved to speed skate and took part in skating competitions and barrel jumping on ABC's Wide World of Sports and was a member of the AAU Swimming Team. He loved to travel, especially to Key West with his wife and enjoyed playing tennis and chess, practicing Systema and Aikido and skiing with his grandchildren. Peter also had a gift for writing and was the author of 2 books, The Legend of Beardslee Castle and Gage Carson. He was very fond of animals and was a huge supporter of the Humane Society. A large Republican supporter, he established the Ambassador Club for the Republican Party for Herkimer County and at one time held the position of Trustee for the Village of Herkimer. He was also Town Judge for the Town of Herkimer for 16 years. Peter was the past president of the Herkimer County Magistrates Association and was a member of the Herkimer Elk's Lodge. Although he had many professional accomplishments, his greatest passion and strongest loyalties belonged with his family, who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Gail; his children, Anthony and Shaula Polus, III, Chad and Jennifer Polus and Heather and Mark Mosny all of Herkimer. He also leaves his grandchildren, Zachary Zaborek, Maxwell Polus, Zachary, Nathaniel, Abigail and Jillian Polus, Alexis and Justin Swieton, and Meara and Peter Mosny; his brother, James Polus and his wife Noreen of New Hampshire; his in-laws, Dean Ouderkirk, Gwen Conroy and Bill Gahan, and many nieces and nephews. Peter had a special place in his heart for animals and also leaves behind his canine friends, Sami and Mandy. He was predeceased by a sister, Rosemarie Ouderkirk and a granddaughter, Bella Polus Mosny. The family is grateful to the wonderful staff of the Bassett Medical Center ICU and to Dr. Travis Hodgdon for the wonderful care given to Peter during his time spent there. In lieu of floral offerings, expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be considered to the Herkimer County Humane Society; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 4-7 p. m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort) 315-894-8000.
