Obituary of Clara L. Digristina

SCHUYLER: Clara L. (DiMaggio) Digristina, 87, a lifelong Schuyler resident, passed away peacefully, at her home, after a brief illness on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. She is now in the hands of the Lord. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the love and support of her family. Born in Frankfort, NY on February 16, 1927, Clara was the daughter of the late James and Providenza (Caruso) DiMaggio. Raised and educated locally, she received her education, grades 1-8 in a country red brick school house. She then went on to graduate from Frankfort High School Class of 1945. On April 23, 1949, Clara was joined in marriage to Leo A. Digristina in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort; the couple having a blessed union of 65 years and sharing in a wonderful and loving relationship filled with great affection and admiration. They made their home in Schuyler and were parishioners of St. Mark's Catholic Church, North Utica. Clara and Leo owned and operated the "Digristina Farms" in Schuyler, running a very successful dairy farm and road side vegetable stand, having the love of their consumers. In the beginning, it was a hard life; long hours, long summers, but in spite of the obstacles, Clara and Leo worked side by side, making it a successful venture. Leo said, "Behind a successful man, there is a good woman" and she was that and more, our cup runneth over. Clara valued her role in life as matriarch of her family. She was a warm, caring and loving person showing compassion for her loved ones. Her life was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren and she will be sadly missed. Clara was survived by her beloved family, her husband Leo; her three children, James (Joan) Digristina, Leonard (Pat) Digristina and Clarice (Joseph) Flint; her cherished grandchildren, Jamie Digristina, Lee Digristina, Katie (Todd) Beaton, Gabriel (Vianna) Digristina, Celeste (Troy) Bamann, Leonard James Digristina, Vanessa (James) Stephany, Joseph (Theresa) Flint and Christopher Flint; her great grandchildren, Tanner Digristina, Stella and Emma Beaton, Grayson, Levi and Dane Digristina, Noah and Lylah HerrNeckar, Audrey, Lydia and Fiona Stephany and Joseph and Catherine Flint. She is also survived by her in-laws, Mary Gerace, Rose Juliano, Cecelia Amey, Clara Lidano, Mary Digristina, Bill Amey and Tony Spohn and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Caruso; brothers, Joe and Cross Nicastro, sisters, Rose Manino, Ann Carney and Lucy Digristina; her in-laws, Nancy Spohn, Rosario Digristina, Joe Lidano, Dominick Gerace and Joseph Juliano, Betty Nicastro, Dorothy Nicastro, Pete Digristina, Jack Carney and Sam Manino. In lieu of floral arrangements, those wishing to make a contribution in Clara's memory may donate to either the Schuyler Volunteer Ambulance Fund or the St. Mark's Memorial Fund; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
