Obituary of Ethel L. Rider

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mrs. Ethel L. (Swartz) Rider, age 85, of Spring Street, St. Johnsville, NY entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday morning May 9, 2014. At the time of her passing, Ethel was in the comfort of her home surrounded with the support of loved ones. She was born on January 24, 1929 in St. Johnsville, the daughter of the late Howard and Anna (Sweeney) Swartz and was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School. She later went on to attend Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. On September 26, 1948 she was united in marriage with Joseph M. Rider at St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville. The couple shared in a blessed union of over 62 years until Joe's passing on January 18, 2010. For over twenty years Ethel served the community as a real estate broker with Rider Realty. She was also a legal secretary for the Attorney James Conboy Law Office of St. Johnsville for 33 years. Throughout the 1980's Ethel loved to bowl. She took great pride in her family business. Ethel was devoted to all those who shared her life. Her husband, children, grandchildren and family were her heart and soul. She always had a beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eye. Survivors include her children: Jan Rider and his wife Elaine of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Todd Rider and his wife Susan of St. Johnsville; Lynn Mocko and her husband Mark of St. Johnsville; and Julie Erno and her husband Frank of St. Johnsville; grandchildren: Nicole Rider and Joseph Rider; brother and sister-in-law: George Swartz and wife Donna of St. Johnsville; In Laws: Carlton Rider and wife Catherine of St. Johnsville, Jeannette Bundyk of St. Johnsville, and Jean Swartz of St. Johnsville, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers Howard, Edward, Roland and Leonard Swartz. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St. in St. Johnsville on Thursday May 15, 2014 from 4 until 7 PM. A prayer service will be held on Thursday evening at 7PM at the funeral home with the Reverend David Johnson officiating. A graveside service at the family plot in West St. Johnsville Cemetery will be held on Friday morning May 16th at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A special thank you is extended to Ethel's personal caregivers Robin Clark and Ashley Putnam. Words cannot express the gratitude and appreciation the family feels for the wonderful love and care they provided to their mother. They were angels with a special loving touch and were always there for Ethel and the family.
