Obituary of Jackie Lee Copeland

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mr. Jackie Lee "Jack" Copeland, age 72, a former resident of Main Street in Sharon Springs, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday May 9, 2014 at the Folts Home Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Herkimer, NY. He had been a resident there since November of 2013 and the family is appreciative of the care extended. Jack was born in Madison, Wisconsin on August 1, 1941 the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Crawford) Copeland. He graduated from high school in Oregon, Wisconsin in 1960. He attended community college while living in Tampa, Florida. Jack served in the US Navy in active duty then in the Naval Reserves from 1964 to 1994. After retiring from the military he worked in sales. He could often be found working in Radio Shack stores in Wisconsin and upstate New York. In his free time, he had a goal of visiting every Waffle House east of the Mississippi River, and came pretty darn close! He also volunteered in his retirement years for the Carlisle Fire Department, Sharon Springs Fire Department and the Esperance Historical Society. He was a member of Elks Lodge #2507 in Esperance, VFW in Cobleskill, Rotary in Sharon Springs, NY, and American Legion in Sharon Springs, NY. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Central Bridge, NY. He is survived by his daughter Paula Israel (Steve) of Kansas City, Missouri, and his sons James Copeland (Chris) of Independence, Missouri and John Copeland (Christina) of Washington DC. He was affectionately known as "Papa Jack" to his grandchildren Katelyn Richards (Chuck), Leah Israel, Jennifer Paxton and Melissa, Matt, Emily and Elizabeth Copeland, Clay Copeland and Hunter, and great-grandsons William and Owen Paxton. His brother Bill Copeland (Lynn) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, 2 nephews (Sean and Shane), one niece (Kerri), companion Jody, and dear friends Lee and Verelyn Robertson also survive him. His family is grateful for the assistance of his friends and members of his church for the assistance and support provided to him over the years.
