Obituary of Joseph F. Finkst

LITTLE FALLS - Mr. Joseph F. Finkst, Sr., age 83, a longtime resident of Little Falls, NY passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Samaritan Hospital, in Troy, NY. He was born on April 15, 1931 in Hartwick, NY a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Zupevic) Finkst. He received his education in Little Falls schools. He joined in marriage with Louise Foley on June 27, 1959 at St. Mary's Church in Little Falls. The couple had shared in a blessed union of over 41 years of marriage together. Mrs. Finkst passed away on October 16, 2000. Joe was a member of the Holy Family Parish in Little Falls. He was last employed with Utica Corporation in Whitesboro as a machinist. Joe served our country with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He enlisted in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He devoted himself to his family. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, bowling and gardening. Joe was an accomplished wood worker and also was an avid card player. His love of sports was especially evident toward the Boston Red Sox, a team he was very passionate about! He was a proud member of the 1948 Little Falls football team, the last team that we know of to have been undefeated. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his family: children: Gary Finkst and wife Debbie of Ipswich, MA, Linda Griffin and husband Jack of Troy, NY, Donna Finkst and Don Davison of Toms River, NJ, Susan McGraw and husband Tom of Little Falls, and Joseph Finkst, Jr. and wife Susan of Little Falls, grandchildren: Allison and Eric Griffin, Ryan and Jason Finkst, Christopher, Evan and Olivia McGraw, and Jacob Finkst, and his brother-in-law Matthew Foley of Little Falls. Several cousins also survive as well as his aunt: Frances Wayman and nephews Dan and Phil DeGouff. Mr. Finkst was predeceased by his parents, his wife Louise, his sister and brother-in-law: Mary and Fran DeGouff, a sister-in-law Marge Foley, and a nephew Don DeGouff. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 24, 2014 at 9:00 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home 24 West Monroe Street Little Falls, where prayer will be offered and at 9:30 AM at the Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Streets, Little Falls where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on West Monroe Street on Friday May 23rd from 5 until 8 PM. Those wishing to remember Joe in a special way are asked to consider a donation in his memory to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Boulevard Rensselaer, NY 12144. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
