Obituary of Jeffrey Weeks

MOHAWK: Jeffrey Kent Weeks, 52, of Mohawk, passed away peacefully after a fierce but short fight with brain cancer on Thursday May 22, 2014 at his home with his family's love and comfort surrounding him. He was born October 7, 1961 in Endicott, N.Y., the son of David and Arlene (Howe) Weeks of Binghamton NY. In 1979 he graduated from Chenango Valley High School. He furthered his education at SUNY Farmingdale College earning his Associates Degree in animal science. In 1983 Jeff graduated from Cornell University with his Bachelors degree in agriculture education. Jeff was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was honored to serve his country as a tank crew man. He served from 1983 until honorably discharged in 1989 with the rank of Corporal. In 1991 he and his fiancé started dairy farming in Schoharie, NY. On February 29, 1992 he married the love of his life, Dawn Jaycox in the Schoharie Presbyterian Church. Jeff also worked off the farm over the years at Eastern AI, Walmart DC in Sharon Springs and most recently at Redco Foods as a planning analyst. In 2001 Jeff and Dawn moved their family and dairy farm business to Herkimer County, which is still known as J-Dawn Dairy and Homestead today. He and his family expanded their farm business to include hogs, sheep, goat and beef cattle; to include selling their naturally grown meats at local farmers markets. Jeff was a close knit family man and instilled the lessons of hard work, morals and values within his children. He was a quiet man with the patience of a saint. He absolutely adored his children and was so proud of their accomplishments. Jeff also had many hobbies. He enjoyed jamming with his drums in the barn haymow, reading history and war books, cooking and no one made fudge better then his. He was a big star trek, star wars and football fan as well. Jeff's greatest joy was helping children. He served on the Schoharie County 4-H committee, assisted with 4-H shooting clubs and served as clerk during the Schoharie County fair open dairy cattle shows. Jeff was also cofounder and acting president for the first 2 years of the Mohawk Pop Warner Football League. Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Dawn; his 4 beautiful young and loving children, Sarah Ellen Weeks, Jeffrey Kent Weeks II, Carrie Dawn Weeks, and Samuel Judson Weeks all of Mohawk; his parents Dave and Arlene Weeks of Binghamton, NY his brothers Joel and wife Kris Weeks of Glen Aubrey, NY; Jon and wife Sue Weeks of Binghamton, NY Mike and wife Darlene of Greene, NY; and Dave Weeks Jr. of Binghamton, NY.; a sister Kathy Horton of Binghamton, NY,; his in-laws Bill and Nancy Jaycox of Mohawk, NY, a sister in-law Eve Tuttle and husband Scott of Windham, NY ; a brother in-law Bill Jaycox Jr and wife Elaine of Middleburgh, NY and many nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort) 315-894-8000. A memorial service will take place immediately following calling hours at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Engel, officiating. Full military honors will be accorded.
