Obituary of Salvatore Magro

FRANKFORT: Salvatore (Totó) Magro, 98, a Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, May 22, 2014 with the love and support of his family by his side. Born in San Giuseppe Jato PR Palermo, Sicily on January 4, 1916 he was the son of the late Pasquale and Vincenza (Vivirito) Magro. On April 29, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Francesca Migliore in San Giuseppe Jato with whom he shared an inseparable devotion during their 64 years of marriage. Salvatore's diligent work ethic began at a very young age, while in Italy he was the owner and operator of a vineyard. He then sacrificed his land and home in Italy to come to the United States to give his family a future, keeping them all together. As a family, they began the Pumpkin Patch Farm, growing and selling strawberries, tomatoes and other various produce. Later in life he worked at Joseph & Feiss as a presser, retiring in 1982. A loving, warmhearted, and respected patriarch, Totó was proud to be an Italian-American, passing down the traditions of his heritage and instilling his values in the generations that followed him. To know Salvatore was to appreciate a man who loved and protected his family unconditionally. He loved to garden, cook, and take pictures of his family. All said, Salvatore was a winner in life, and an inspiration to those who knew and loved him, "A Job Well Done", he will be sadly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife, Francesca, his sons and daughters-in-law, Ignazio (Pat) Magro and wife Cynthia of Frankfort, Stefano (Steve) Magro and wife Toni of Carthage, Vincenzo (Vinny) Magro and wife Filippa and Giuseppe (Joe) Magro and wife Serafina all of Sherburne; his cherished grandchildren, Francesca Maria, Salvatore Rosario, Stefano, Salvatore (Savie) and wife Amanda, Stefania and fiancé Greg Peebles, Salvatore (Salvo), Francesca Valentina, Antonino, Salvatore (Toti) and Francesca Lilla Maria; his great grandchildren, Stefano and Alessandra Magro, and Gina and Gabriella Blake as well as many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Giuseppe, Paola, Pietro, Vincenzo, and Ignazio, his sisters, Giuseppina, Rosa and Maria, and his great grandchild Stefano Blake. The Magro Family would like to extend a special thank you to Chenango Valley Hospice and to Dr. John Cruz for their care and compassion shown Salvatore during his recent illness. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315)894-8000.
