Obituary of Bernard Sagatis

MOHAWK: Bernard (Bernie) Sagatis, 84, a lifelong Little Falls resident, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Little Falls Hospital. Born in Little Falls, NY on November 12, 1929 Bernie was the son of the late Bruno and Blanche (Mazurski) Sagatis. Raised and educated locally, he attended Van Hornesville Schools. On August 22, 1953 he was united in marriage to the former Jean (Jeanie) Heafey with whom he shared 60 years of love and devotion. In September of 1955 he enlisted in the United States Army honorably served his country until August of 1961. Bernie worked for many years in farming with his father. Later in his working career, he worked as a mechanic for the Herkimer County Highway Department and also worked for over 30 years with Slabe Sales and Service, Little Falls. In his leisure time, he found much enjoyment in flying airplanes and had been a member of the Experimental Air Craft Association. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, spending time camping at Pine Lake and boating. He is survived by his wife, Jeanie; his beloved son and daughter-in-law, William and Linda Sagatis of Little Falls; his cherished grandsons, William Sagatis, Jr. and Steven Sagaits both of Little Falls; his brothers, Edward Sagatis and wife He Sun of Hawaii and John Sagatis and wife Kathryn of Little Falls, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Reardon. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to The Herkimer County Humane Society in Bernie's memory; envelopes will be available at the service. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Graveside Service on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Cemetery, Town of Herkimer with military honors accorded.
