HERKIMER - Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" North, age 96, a longtime resident of South Washington Street in Herkimer, passed away on Sunday morning June 1, 2014 at the St. Luke's Home, Town of New Hartford, NY. She was born on June 26, 1917 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland a daughter of the late Arthur G. and Jessie (Hird) McArthur. She received her education in her native Scotland schools and obtained higher education in New York City. Margaret was naturalized on November 11, 1954. She was married to Harris North on May 2, 1957. The couple shared in a loving union of nearly 18 years until the death of Mr. North on February 7, 1975. She last worked as a caregiver with Green Thumb, Inc. of Herkimer. For many years she was a cook for Dineen's Restaurant formerly in Herkimer. She attended the Columbia Center Community Church. Special family friends survive Peggy including: Thomas and Judy Lindsay of Newport, Luella Schrader of Utica, Don Schrader of Ilion, LuAnn Garlock of Newport, Gary Schrader of Middleville, William Keeler of Mohawk and Hans Drews of St. Johnsville, and her friends at the Galinsky Apartments in Herkimer. Her funeral arrangements are with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY, under the direction of Funeral Directors Harry & Kevin Enea 315-866-1011. A graveside service will be held on Friday June 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Middleville Cemetery with Rev. Hans Drews, Pastor of the Columbia Center Community Church officiating.
