Obituary of Verna I Babyak

MOHAWK - Verna I. Babyak, age 94, of S. Richfield St., Mohawk, formerly of Milford, Conn., passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born on December 3, 1919, in Washburn, Maine, the daughter of James and Maybelle (Rockwell) Clayton, and attended schools in Conn. and Maine. In February 1937, she was married to Michael Babyak in Bridgeport, Conn. He died on November 23, 2007. Verna enjoyed making quilts, crafts, her birds, flowers and music. She attended Grace Episcopal Church in Mohawk. Mrs. Babyak was a past officer of Orcutt Boy's Club (helping underprivileged children) of Bridgeport, Conn., and was a former volunteer at Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of Bridgeport, Conn. Verna really liked her great-grandchildren calling her G-G and was very proud of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Robert Wright, of Mohawk; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Victoria Babyak, of Trumbull, Conn.; five grandchildren, Douglas James Wright and his wife, Susan, of Durham, NC, Stuart Wright and his wife, Nancy, of Cazenovia, NY, Tamara Acosta and her husband, Paul, of Ithaca, NY, Mark Babyak, of Fairfield, Conn., and Melissa Letsch, of Fairfield, Conn.; six great-grandchildren, Victoria, Brittany and Jackson Wright, Sebastian and Alexander Acosta, and Olivia Letsch; special nephew, Keith Interrante and his wife, Mary, of Trumbull, Conn.; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Verna's Memorial Mass to be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Grace Episcopal Church, E. Main St., Mohawk, with Father William Wheeler, Rector, officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford, Conn. There are no calling hours. Verna's great-grandchildren, Victoria, Brittany, Jackson, Sebastian, Alexander and Olivia, will act as Honorary Pall Bearers at the Mass for their great-grandmother. The family wishes to thank Mohawk Homestead staff for their excellent care and kindness during her stay. The family also wishes to extend a big thank you to the Valley Health Services second floor west staff for their outstanding care and compassion given to Verna while she was a resident.
