Obituary of Jim Herkel

NORTH ILION - Jim Herkel, age 75, of North Ilion, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2014, at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion, with his family by his side. He was born on June 29, 1939, in Little Falls, the son of Henry J. Herkel, Sr., and Nathaleen (Lockwood) Herkel, and graduated from Herkimer High School. On July 2, 1983, he was married to Vivian Dunham in Mohawk. They were soul mates. Jim was employed at Library Bureau in Herkimer for over twenty years. Survivors include his wife, Vivian, of whom Jim gave love, peace and happiness; his children that he loved so well, Timmy Herkel, Clifford Dunham, Chris Dunham (wife Betty), Arline Joy, Carrie Dygert, Dan Herkel and Brian Herkel; grandchildren, Andy, Adam, Abigail, Chris, Jr., and Kevin; great-grandchildren, Payton, Bentley, Dominick, Lenix and Michael; his sister, Coleen and her family; his brother, Larry Herkel (wife Sally); his friends, Mary and Larry; along with all his friends who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ted Herkel, who in fact was Jim and Vivian's best man. A very special thank you is extended to the staff of the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, and a special thanks to Viv's maid of honor, Carol. Thank you Carol for introducing Jim and Viv! Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2015, at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Shells Bush Rd., Town of Little Falls.
