Obituary of Theodore D. Wind

LITTLE FALLS: Dr. Theodore "Doc" Wind, 56, a lifelong Little Falls resident, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at home, with the support of his loving family by his side. Born in Little Falls on November 14, 1957, Ted was the son of Theodore S. Wind and the late Catherine (Kelleher) Wind. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Little Falls High School. He continued his academic studies at LeMoyne College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He went on to receive his Doctorate of Optometry from Illinois College of Optometry. On June 9, 1990 he wed the former Nancy Preston at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer; their life together reflected their devotion over 24 years of marriage. Working along with his wife Nancy, Doc began his career in optometry in 1986 and was the owner of Dr. Theodore Wind Optometry. Being a hometown boy who was dedicated to his career, family and community, he chose to return to Little Falls to establish a practice, and more importantly, raise his family. Doc served the people faithfully in Little Falls and the surrounding areas for 28 years. His professional affiliations included his memberships as President of the Mohawk Valley Optometric Association and the NYS Optometric Association. He was an active member on the Board of Trustees for HCCC, appointed in September of 2012 by Governor Cuomo; the Little Falls YMCA Board of Trustees since 2005 becoming President in 2013; the Little Falls Police and Fire Board since 2004, holding the position of Vice-President since 2007and the Little Falls Elks Lodge, being past Exalted Ruler, Scholarship Chairman and Elk of the Year in 1999. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Parish. To know Doc was to appreciate a man who loved and protected his family unconditionally. He was a generous and hard working man and any time he was surrounded by his wife, Nancy and son, Dimtri was precious time. He enjoyed the sport of golf, was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and looked forward to family trips to the Cape. All said, Doc was a winner in life, and an inspiration to those who knew and loved him, he will be sadly missed. Doc is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his father, Theodore "Ted" Wind of Little Falls; his son, Dimitri R. Wind at home; his brothers; Tom Wind and wife Lisa of Little Falls, Robert Wind and wife Dawn of Latham, Dr. Michael Wind and wife Robyn of Washington, MI, and John Wind and wife Joella of Manlius; his sister, Mary Wind of Syracuse; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Preston of Herkimer; his in-laws, George and Roberta Connell, Alan and Jane Hipps, Peter and Lauren Gibbs, Val Preston and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
