Obituary of Florence M Harter

MOHAWK - Florence "Sis" (Zember) M. Harter, age 77, of Orchard St., Mohawk, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from injuries suffered as a result of an automobile accident. She was born on May 25, 1937, in Mohawk, the daughter of John T. and Rose (Nardalli) Zember, and graduated from Mohawk schools. On July 21, 1956, she was married to Franklin "Frank" L.B. Harter at St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer, by Father Urbaro. He died on November 13, 2009. Florence was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, and its Rosary Society, Our Lady of Skyways Sodality at Beale AFB, and VFW Auxiliary of Herkimer. She was also a past President of Herkimer Co. American Legion Auxiliary and past President of the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Smith and her husband, Charles, of Mohawk, and Sandra Clark and special friend, Randy Swartout, of Sherburne; her daughter-in-law, Charlynne Harter; five grandchildren, James Albin and his wife, Melissa, Catherine Albin and her fiance, Aaron, Crystal Massey and her husband, Steve, John Hall and his wife, Melody, and Joshua Huyck; two step-grandchildren, Gene Charles, and James Charles and his wife, Roberta; several great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmella and Howard Miller, of Western Valley, Ohio, and Marie and Theodore Hilts, of Herkimer; her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Sharon Zember, of Tenn.; her aunt, Bessie Zember; and her uncle, John Schavoine and his wife, Lil; her three sisters-in-law, Verna Gydesen, of Ilion, Dorothy Ward, of Oklahoma, and Linda Marshe, of Plattsburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Frank; her son, John; her granddaughter, Angela Zeigler; and her sister, Lena Fiorentino. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the Blessed Sacrament Church, E. Main St., Mohawk, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours are Monday, July 14, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened location at 102 West St., Ilion. The Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary service will be held 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2014, at the funeral home.
