Obituary of Richard C. Hall

HERKIMER - Mr. Richard C. Hall, retired Herkimer Fire Chief, passed away at age 85 on Wednesday morning July 23, 2014 at the Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Little Falls following a difficult illness. At the time of his death he was surrounded by his loving family. Dick was a lifelong Herkimer resident, son of Clarence and Myra (Hoffman) Hall. He graduated from Herkimer High School in 1947 and married the former Margaret Dunning in 1949 in St. Francis de Sales Church. He was employed in the Herkimer Fire Department for over 25 years, retiring as fire chief, and also served as the Village Codes Officer for several years. Dick loved the Adirondacks and after his retirement he built a cabin at Canada Lake. He was an avid sportsman, a fan of country music, a member of the Herkimer and the Ilion Fish and Game Clubs and was proud of his participation in the Remington Arms skeet shooting team. He was also a member of the Herkimer Polish Club. Dick was of the Protestant faith. Richard Hall is survived by his loving life partner, Beatrice Nasypany; his children, Peter (Madeline) Hall, of Long Island, Douglas Hall, of Herkimer, Rick (Sherri) Hall, of Herkimer, Marijoy Hall (Ed Sokolowski), of Utica, Sheila Hall, of Richfield Springs, Donna Hall (Fred Reich), of Albany, and Cynthia Edwards (George Bracken), of Ilion; friend and son - in - law Alan Nasypany; 18 grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Hall, in Arizona. He was predeceased by his parents, his step - father Sal Pugliese, and a brother Don Hall. Dick's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to St. Elizabeth Hospital of Utica special care unit as well as the Alpine Nursing & Rehabilitation for the love and support shown. Dick requested his body be donated to medical research, hence there will be no funeral home calling hours. The burial service will be held 11:00 a.m., on Friday, August 1, 2014 in Oak Hill Cemetery, W. German St., Herkimer. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. Rev. Hans Drews will officiate.
