Obituary of Jean Sagatis

MOHAWK - Mrs. Jean "Jeanie" (Heafey) Sagatis, age 81, a longtime resident of the Little Falls area, joined her husband Bernie in heaven on Friday evening August 8, 2014. Her passing occurred at the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center in Ilion. Born in Herkimer, NY on April 7, 1933, Jeanie was the daughter of the late John and Mae (VanAlstyne) Heafey. Raised and educated locally, she attended Little Falls schools. On August 22, 1953 she was united in marriage to Bernard "Bernie" Sagatis at the Universalist parsonage in Herkimer with Rev. Stanley Stall officiating. The couple shared in sixty years of love and devotion. Mr. Sagatis passed away on May 23, 2014. Jeanie worked for over twenty years as the deli manager of P&C Food Store in Herkimer. Earlier in her working career, she worked with Charles Hanson's Lab and Salada Foods of Little Falls. She was a member of UFCW. In her leisure time, she found much enjoyment in spending time camping and boating with her family at Pine Lake. She was also very fond of crocheting, gardening and working with ceramics. She is survived by her beloved son and daughter - in - law, William and Linda Sagatis of Little Falls; her cherished grandsons, William Sagatis, Jr. and Steven Sagatis both of Little Falls; her brothers, John Heafey and wife Marty of Rochester and James Heafey of Little Falls; many nieces, nephews, cousins and In Laws including Edward Sagatis and wife He Sun of Hawaii and John Sagatis and wife Kathryn of Little Falls. She was predeceased by two sisters: Alice Reynolds and Marilyn Heafey. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to HALO of Little Falls. Envelopes will be available at the service to honor Jeanie in this special way. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial graveside service on Friday August 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Cemetery, Town of Herkimer.
