Obituary of Stanley J. Witkowski

HERKIMER - Mr. Stanley J. Witkowski, age 83, of Herkimer, NY passed away on Tuesday evening August 19, 2014 at the Folts Homes of Herkimer with the love and support of his family. He was born on May 25, 1931 in the town of Warren, NY, son of the late John and Helen (Malinowski) Witkowski. He received his education in the Van Hornesville, NY school system. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served his country from 1956 until 1958. He was a Herkimer resident since 1962. On August 6, 1955 Stan was united in marriage to Stella Cioch until her passing on August 30, 1979. In 1987, Stan married Rita Salvagni LeClair until her passing on March 16, 2010. He was a member of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph in Herkimer. Stan was employed as an auto mechanic, a trade he loved and was so good at for several local car dealerships. He worked at Koerner Ford in Yorkville for ten years, Castle Ford in Herkimer for ten years and he retired from Eastern Auto Mall in Ilion. Stash was so proud of his Polish heritage and loved to dance and listen to Polka music. He also enjoyed, when he could, travelling and going to the horse races and casinos and loved to watch old western movies and NASCAR. Stash loved his family unconditionally and would light up when he was talking about his daughters and his grandchildren as he was so proud of them. He is survived by his loving daughters, Joanne Dunn and her husband Bill of Parker, Colorado; Teresa Schiavi and her husband Mark of Herkimer, NY; his grandchildren: Justin and Kaitlyn Dunn and Ryan Schiavi; step daughters: Donna Smith and husband David of North Carolina and their children: Jaclyn, Jason and Joseph Smith, Patricia Schug and husband Donald of Whitesboro and their children Donald, Daniel, and Mary Kate Schug. Also surviving are his brothers: William Witkowski, Charles Witkowski, John Witkowski and friend Peg Singer, and his sisters: Clara Sarafin and Stephanie Greseck and her husband Stanley, a sister-in-law, Helen Witkowski, and a very special nephew, Joe Mlekoday, who helped his uncle Stash whenever he needed anything; and many other in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Witkowski and sisters, Julia Smagalski, Stella Witkowski, Frances Mlekoday and Edna Guzik Orcheski as well as several other In-Laws. A special thank you is extended by the family for the care Stan received at St. Luke's Hospital 2nd Floor and Folts Home 1st floor staff and the many friends and family members who supported him and his daughters during his illness. Stanley's family also sends a special thank you to Dr. William Parker and his staff. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 23, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY where prayer will be offered and the family will be present. His Mass of Christian Burial will begin celebration at 9:30 AM at the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street, Herkimer, Fr. Terence Healy, Pastor officiating. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where interment will take place. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Friday August 22nd from 4 until 7 PM.
